Become A Member
The Black Legal Action Centre’s (BLAC) work is supported by our members. To help us to fulfill our vision and mission, and to ensure that our services are relevant, we need the participation of Black Ontarians. Please offer your support by becoming a member of BLAC.
You may become a member of BLAC:
- if you have an interest in furthering BLAC’s Vision and Mission;
- if you are at least 18 years old;
- if you are normally resident in the province of Ontario; and
- if you identify as Black or African Canadian; or
- if you are an organization that is mandated or delivers services primarily to Black communities in Canada.
Being a member entitles you to attend and vote at our Annual General Meetings and stand for election to the Board of Directors.
Individual Member
THE UNDERSIGNED makes application to the Corporation to become a General Member of the Corporation, and hereby represents and warrants the following to be true:
- I identify as Black or African Canadian;
- I am at least eighteen (18) years of age
- I am normally resident in the province of Ontario;
- I affirm my interest in furthering the Corporation’s purposes; and
- I have paid the annual membership dues, that being five dollars ($5), and I understand that such dues will be payable by me each year upon written notice of the board of directors of the Corporation.
- I am also aware that membership expires each year on September 30.
Legal Service Provider Member
THE UNDERSIGNED makes application to the Corporation to become a Legal Service Provider Member of the Corporation, and hereby represents and warrants the following to be true:
- I identify as Black or African Canadian;
- I am at least eighteen (18) years of age;
- I am normally resident in the province of Ontario;
- I am a lawyer or paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
- I affirm my interest in furthering the Corporation’s purposes; and
- I have paid the annual membership dues, that being five dollars ($5), and I understand that such dues will be payable by me each year upon written notice of the board of directors of the Corporation. I am also aware that membership expires each year on September 30.
Organizational Member
(the “Applicant”), makes application to the Corporation on behalf of the Applicant to become an Organizational Member of the Corporation, and hereby represents and warrants the following to be true:
- The Applicant is mandated or focussed on delivering services primarily to members of Canada’s Black communities;
- The Applicant affirms its interest in furthering the Corporation’s purposes;
- The Applicant has completed the form attached as Schedule A, appointing an Authorized Representative of the Applicant; and
- The Applicant has paid the annual membership dues, that being twenty-five dollars ($25) and understands that such dues will be payable each year by it upon written notice of the board of directors of the Corporation.
- I have paid the annual membership dues, that being five dollars ($5), and I understand that such dues will be payable by me each year upon written notice of the board of directors of the Corporation. I am also aware that membership expires each year on September 30.
MEMBERSHIP FORM
The Application for Membership is a two-step process. You must complete a membership form and make the membership payment.
You may pay for your membership online or send us a cheque. Please note that BLAC does not accept cash through the mail.
Membership expires each year on September 30 and so must be renewed each year.
Please note that BLAC is a non-profit organization. We do not have a charitable number at this time.
