Both Ontario and Canadian laws provide human rights protections from discrimination. The discrimination must be based on a specific personal characteristic(s) or a perceived personal characteristic including: race, ancestry, place of origin, ethnic origin, colour, citizenship, religion, creed, sex (including pregnancy), gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family status, disability, and receipt of public assistance.
